POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller is a critical member of the CPES Management Team, leading the accounting team and advising management on financial performance, transactional efficiency, and operational planning. Responsibilities include financial reporting, financial planning, budget management, providing analytical tools, and maintaining a high company standard of accounting principles.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Build a competitively superior organization by attracting, developing, and retaining talent to ensure that people with the right skills and motivations are in the right place, at the right time to meet business needs
  • Set meaningful goals and targets for accounting team
  • Perform the monthly financial close process
  • Manage and report monthly financial forecasts
  • Develop, maintain, and review systems and procedures and recommend improvements to ensure accounting policies are achieved and assess optimal financial performance
  • Establish and monitor internal accounting controls in order to comply with company policy and legal regulations
  • Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual operating results for each Business Unit (10)
  • Ensure integrity of budget and forecasting processes and provide analysis to management team
  • Organize and prepare for regular project reviews with operational teams
  • Participate in monthly financial review meetings
  • Actively participate and lead pricing and profitability initiatives
  • Support operations with relevant financial analysis to enhance decision-making at various levels
  • Liaise with Corporate Finance on various initiatives and improvement projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Relevant diploma or bachelor’s degree (e.g. accounting, commerce)
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA)
Experience
  • Minimum 7-10 years of related experience
  • Accomplished financial professional with experience managing and leading a team
  • Construction or manufacturing experience is considered a valuable asset
  • Proficient working in Microsoft software and accounting computer systems
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Adept in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles
  • Proficient in federal and provincial tax regulations
  • Capable of analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Product line profitability/cost analysis
  • Developed analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of participating in and facilitating group meetings
  • Accomplished professional verbal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Capable of working independently with minimal direction
  • Proficient in federal and provincial tax regulations
